Principal's Message for the Week of March 15th

We are excited that we will be breaking ground on our new school on Thursday, March 19! The district would like ALL of our students and staff to be a part of this celebration. To make this happen, the district will be transporting all Miller South students and staff to our new building location to take part in this milestone. We will take a group picture at the site, and one student per grade level will be randomly chosen to be a part of the ceremony by holding a shovel. Students have been given an orange permission slip. Please sign and return that to school on Monday. Families are invited to attend the ceremony as well. The new building will be located at 2140 13th St. SW. We encourage students to wear construction gear and/or Miller South apparel.

Our 3rd annual Arts Integration Night will take place on Tuesday, March 24, from 4:30 - 6:00 PM. We invite all our families to see the amazing ways our teachers have integrated the arts into the curriculum. There will be light refreshments and door prizes. We hope to see you there.

Firestone CLC will be hosting a 7th Grade Shadow Experience on Thursday, March 26th. We apologize for the confusion on the previous announcement; Firestone has confirmed Thursday, March 26th, as the correct day. Space is limited to the first 40 students to register. It is time to start planning for the 26/27 school year. Families of current 5th, 6th, and 7th graders interested in adding, changing, or dropping an interest area must complete THIS FORM by March 23. Families of current 4th-grade families must complete THIS FORM to add a second period of art for next school year. The form is also due by March 23. All internal auditions will take place after spring break. A detailed email with this information was sent to all guardians on Thursday, March 5. Please see the appropriate arts teacher with any questions.

6th-grade health starts the Human Growth and Development Unit in class on Monday, the 16th. If you wish for your student to not participate in this unit, please have them turn in the opt-out form on Monday morning before class or email Ms. Montgomery. These have been emailed to your email and are posted on your student’s Google Classroom. Remember this is to NOT participate in Human Growth and Development. Contact Ms. Montgomery if you have any questions or concerns."

A message from the PTA: This Tuesday, March 17th, is our monthly PTA meeting. This meeting is ONLINE only. - Please join us at 6:30 p.m. at the link.

Scholastic will be here for our spring book fair. The book fair runs from March 23-27. PTA is looking for volunteers to support the book fair. Please sign up at the provided link.

The end of marking period 3 is on Friday. Please check in with your child to make sure all assignments are completed AND turned in. 

Students will take their quarterly assessments this week in their math, ELA, and science classes. Please ensure your child comes to school each day with a charged Chromebook to be prepared for their assessments.

Many students no longer have headphones that are needed during their classes and will be needed during testing season. Please check with your child to see if they need their headphones replaced. We had over 500 pairs in the office, and we are now out due to students coming daily for headphones. We will not have any available in the office for the remainder of the year.

Attention students who love or want to try running. Please see the attached flyer for information on a running club.
