Community Engagement Drives This Story

Cuyahoga Falls Mayor Don Walters announced an art-centered community engagement event in partnership with ArtsNow, Collide: Cuyahoga Falls, and Curated Storefront. The event will be held at the Cuyahoga Falls Downtown Pavilion (2085 Front St.) on June 5 from noon-3 p.m. This will be the first of two public engagement sessions and will be a piece of "River in the City," a multi-year public art project funded in part by the National Endowment of the Arts, Our Town Grant. The elements of the event are:
- Gum-Dip Theatre conducting "Flowing With the Currents: An Exploration of Our Personal Experiences With the Cuyahoga River," theatrical vignettes in collaboration with community members; registration is open to community members ages 13 and up and will be available beginning at 11 a.m.; and
- Local artist (and Miller-South School teacher) Alison Miltner Rich interviewing community members along Front Street to collect drawings/stories about the river and then creating three paintings; the paintings will be gifted to the city and displayed downtown later in the summer.
As part of the Own Town Grant, environmental artist Stacy Levy and sculptor Peter Jones (who created the Native American carrying a canoe in the Merriman Valley) will create art pieces in downtown Cuyahoga Falls to be installed later this fall.
