Sunday Star Updates

Principal's Message for the Week of September 16th

Thank you to all our STAR fathers, father figures, family, and friends who attended the father’s walk this week. We had a great turnout and we appreciate your presence in supporting your child at school.

Just a reminder that students are not permitted to have phones and other electronic devices during the school day. This includes AirPods, tablets, and smartwatches. Unfortunately, we have students who are sneaking phones and unlocking their Yondr bags throughout the day. Any student caught with these devices will be subject to disciplinary action including suspension. If students arrive to school late, they are still to have their phones in their Yondr bags or turn them into the main office. If your child has lost or broken their Yondr bag, they must bring $20 before a new bag will be issued.

Please make sure that you are labeling your student’s belongings. We find lunch boxes, hoodies, purses, and water bottles daily. Lost items are placed in lost and found in the dining room. If your child has lost an item, that is where they should look. Students should not be taking things from the lost and found that do not belong to them. If they see an item that belongs to a friend, they should not take it to a friend but let the friend know where it is. We have gone over this with the students this week. Students are responsible for the items they bring to school.

Students should not be bringing stuffed animals or other toys to school. They are a distraction in the classroom and we need them to focus on their academics.

This year the Superintendent’s Book Club theme is “20 Minutes a Day: Spark Your Imagination, One Page at a Time.” The student with the highest number of books read in each grade band will be recognized at the board meeting and will be awarded a $25 gift card from Acme. This year the district will be awarding all students who meet the monthly number of books.
4/5-  The goal is set for reading 8 Books
6-8-  The goal is set for reading 4 Books
Students will need to fill out the appropriate Google Form once a book is read.

       Middle School

This week is College Access Week. Each day will have a theme to represent college access.
       Monday - Pajama Day
       Tuesday - Wear neon/bright colors
Wednesday - Dress as a future career
       Thursday - College spirit day

The book fair is almost here.  A few spots remain left to help make this popular event happen.  Sign up here

Please make sure that your child knows where they are to meet you during dismissal. Adults shouldn’t be entering the building to look for students as this can create an unsafe environment. The snack table is up and running and I know many students visit for snacks before leaving the building. Touch base with your child about your expectations for their dismissal.

Here are some upcoming dates for you to be aware of.
Friday, September 27 - No School for students
       September 30 - October 4 - Book Fair
       October 3 - Picture Day, Interim Pick up from 3:30 - 7:00

Please see the calendar of events in the all-call email for this week's events. I hope you all have a great evening and we’ll see everyone back on Monday.
