Principal's Message for the Week of September 14th

Thursday, September 18, will be our annual Father’s Walk. We invite fathers and father figures to bring their child/ren to school to show their support for education. Our Father’s Walk will be from 8:00 to 8:30 and will be located in the parking lot by door 3. Parking is available in the back two lots by door 12, and you can walk up to the event. Please do not arrive early, as we will still have our normal drop-off for those not attending the walk. Students attending the Father’s Walk will not be marked tardy. If you are planning to attend, RSVP by September 16 to ensure that we have enough refreshments. Thank you to all of you who have already RSVPed. We are looking forward to another great turnout from the Miller South Dads.

 

Attendance all calls will come from the district if your child is marked absent for a period or if you do not call them off. The all-call message is a general message that lets you know that your child was absent for a certain period of the day, OR that you have exceeded 10 days of absences, and now requires a doctor’s note. If you forgot to call off your student, please contact the main office when you receive the message. If you know your child has not missed 10 days, there is no need to contact the office. When calling off your child, please use their legal name and not a nickname so that we can make sure we accurately mark their attendance.

 

Any 7th/8th-grade student interested in Robotics, there will be a sign-up sheet outside of Ms. Duff’s door beginning on Monday. There will be a meeting during lunch on Friday, September 19.  Any questions, talk to Ms. Duff or email her.

 

Esports is going to begin its season at the end of October, tentatively on October 27. It is open to 5th - 8th graders. Permission slips are available through Mr. Oravec and are due by October 5th. First competitions are the week of November 10th and will run through March.

 

A message from the PTA: The first PTA meeting of the year is this Tuesday at 6:30 pm.  Please join us in the dining room (or virtually at link).  You do not need to be a PTA member to come to the meeting.  If you would like to become a member, please go to link.

 

We are still seeing a lot of toys, stuffed animals, and blankets that should not be at school, as they are a distraction to the learning environment. Please make sure that your child keeps these things at home. 

 

We have many students who are bringing water bottles to school that do not have a lid, but an open straw. We are having several water spills during our safety checks, in the auditorium and in the hallways. This can cause an unsafe environment if someone slips and falls. Please make sure that if your child is bringing a water bottle to school, it is a secure bottle that can close with a lid. 

 

If you are planning on getting a background check to volunteer for events and field trips, you must book an appointment with the district HERE.
