Principal's Message for the Week of October 13th
Thank you to all of the students and families who donated to the victims of Hurricane Helene. Miller South will be donating $659.10 to Henderson County, NC to help in their recovery efforts.
Open enrollment has begun for APS. All 8th-grade students must fill out an open enrollment application if they want to attend a high school other than their home school. This includes AECHS and STEM HS. Open enrollment for specialty schools, including Firestone ASA, will close on December 2, 2024. Open enrollment for all other schools closes on January 15, 2025. Community open house will be held on Thursday, October 24 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the Kenmore Community Center, 880 Kenmore Blvd. Members of the community are welcome to come to see the progress that has been made on designs for the new school, as well as ask the architectural team any questions they may have about the project.
The Miller South Bands would like to invite you to our Fall Side-by-Side Band Concert with the Akron Symphonic Winds on Monday, October 21st, at 6:30 p.m. This free concert is a great opportunity to hear our Concert Band students perform amongst professional musicians in the greater Akron area. Thank You for your support!
Every October Miller South students donate new socks to families in the community dealing with housing instability. This year our Theater Department has partnered with Project Rise and the goal is for us to donate 1000 pairs of socks! Each morning students who donate socks get to dance down the aisles to great music to turn in their socks! Donations will be accepted until the end of October.
The Akron Association of Classified Personnel is conducting a Christmas toy drive from now until December 4. They are accepting new toys, gifts, or gift cards for students in grades k-12. If you would like to donate any of these items you can bring them to the main office and give them to Mrs. Shiplett.
Stark State will be holding a STEM night on Thursday, October 24. There will be fun demos, hands-on activities, food, and prizes.
The Superintendent’s Book Club will continue through the end of the school year. This year we have partnered with Acme and any student who reads the designated number of books per month will receive a reward from Acme. Students only need to fill out the Google form for any book that they read. The links to the form are at the bottom of the all-call email.

Thrive and drive raffle tickets are still available at https://millersouthpta.givebacks.com/store?limit=21&live=true. If you have ordered tickets, please remember to return your completed stubs to the PTA mailbox in the office.
Esports will be starting up on October 21st. We will be meeting after school in room 213 (Mr. Oravec's room) to begin our open gaming. Permission slips will need to be turned in by Friday, October 18th. We will meet every Monday after school before Winter break. Registration on our gaming sites will be taken care of during this time. The teams will be announced before we leave for Winter break.
After Winter break those who have made the team will meet on Monday and Thursday every week for competition. More information can be found here.
