Principal's Message for the Week of November 17th

Thank you to all of the volunteers who flipped pancakes and poured juice during our honor roll breakfast this week. The kids enjoyed being celebrated for their academic successes. For the second quarter, we recognize students who are on the honor roll, merit roll, and those who improved their GPA. Please continue to encourage your child to perform their best academically by being focused in class and completing all assignments on time.

The Chipotle Night Fundraiser to help raise money for the visual art students to go to Pittsburgh will be on November 18th from 4-8 PM at the Highland Square location. You must use the code NQNFJFN when ordering online, or show THIS FLYER. Copies of the flyer will be sent home the week before the event. Save yourself from cooking before Thanksgiving by picking up dinner!

Our building-wide expectations for students are to be safe, respectful, and responsible. We discuss this daily in morning meeting. Unfortunately, many students are using disrespectful language to peers and adults throughout the day. We also have students who are disrespecting the building by writing on the walls and trashing bathrooms. Students caught violating our expectations are subject to school consequences. Please discuss appropriate school language and actions with your students so that we can maintain and safe and respectful environment.

As the weather begins to change, please send your kids to school with hats and gloves. 4th and 5th-grade students will go outside for recess as long as it is dry and over 35 degrees. Just a reminder that students are not permitted to wear pajamas, and hats, or have blankets throughout the school day. 

As we enter our performance season, I just wanted to remind families that the building does close at 4:00 pm. Students who are performing in the evening should still be picked up by that time and returned at the designated time as there is no one available to supervise students. 

A message from the PTA: Please sign up at link to help PTA chaperone the annual Pre-Thanksgiving Break Movie on November 26th.

The pepperoni roll sale runs through December 3rd.  Students are eligible to earn both the hot chocolate and snack table rewards (allergy-friendly alternatives will be available).  Order forms should be returned with payment and sales grids are for your convenience (please do not turn in).

Second grading period interim night is December 5th.  Conference days are very long days for staff with minimal meal breaks.  Please sign up at link to help PTA provide a pot-luck style soup and salad bar so staff has a hot, convenient meal that evening.

To date, you have donated enough Acme receipts to earn $85 in Community Cashback!  Please continue sending in receipts with student names written on the back.  We are 20% of the way to our goal of beating last year's collection.  

Self-Love Week: November 18-22
The Miller South Dance Honors (NHSDA) will be sponsoring "Self-Love Week" with a series of activities to promote self-care and appreciation. Please see the flyer for details. 

Akron Public Schools will be having a College Access Night on November 21 from 5 - 7 PM. Please see the attached flyer for additional information.
