Sunday Star Updates

Principal's Message for the Week of March 10th

A big thank you to all of you who came out and supported our theater department in their production of The Lion King Jr this weekend. It was a wonderful experience that showcased the talent of 200+ Miller South students!! Thank you to all the families who supported them by attending the show, making donations, volunteering your time, and creating costumes.

We will be having our first Arts Integration Night on Thursday, March 21 at 4:30. Come out and experience the many ways that we incorporate arts into our classrooms. You will be amazed at the creativity of our student and teachers as they marry arts with academics. We will have raffles and refreshments available. RSVP HERE so that we can ensure we have enough refreshments.

Any 6th, 7th, or 8th-grade student who would like to apply to the National Junior Honor Society can get applications outside of Mrs. Dourm's room on Friday, March 22nd.  Students are required to complete an application, have a 3.5 GPA, and gather teacher recommendations. Applications are due April 23rd.  No late applications will be accepted.

NJHS will be selling student-created bracelets to support Maui during the week of March 11th. Bracelets cost $1. All proceeds will go to help with the Maui fires.

6th-grade health parents/guardians,
6th-grade health is starting the Human Growth and Development Unit in class on Tuesday March 12th. If you wish for your child to NOT participate in this unit, please have them turn in the opt-out form Tuesday morning before class or email Ms. Montgomery. These have been emailed to your email and are posted on your child’s Google Classroom. Remember this is to NOT participate in Human Growth and Development. Contact Ms. Montgomery if you have any questions or concerns.

A message from the PTA. The spring book fair is March 18-22! We need volunteers to help set up, staff and break down the fair. Please go to  Signup Genius to sign up.
Save the date. The next PTA meeting will be on Monday, March 18 at 6 pm. This meeting will be both virtual and in-person in the dining room.

Students in grades 6-8 will be taking their quarterly assessments this week. Students need to arrive daily with their chromebook charged to be preparedfor their assessment.

Attendance is very important in the academic success of all students. Please make sure that your child is in school, on time, each day that they are healthy. If your child is not feeling well, please make sure to call them off. If your child has an appointment please make sure that you bring in a note from the doctor’s office so we can excuse that absence. Please remember that after a student misses 10 days of school they must have a note from a doctor to excuse any further absences.

We have had several students attempting to sneak their phones into the building. Just a reminder that all phones need to be locked in a Yondr bag upon entry into the building and remain there until dismissal. If anyone has a broken Yondr bag that will not lock they will need to replace it in the main office. Replacement bags are $20 and are available in the main office.
