Sunday Star Updates

Principal's Message for the Week of January 28th

We are in the process of scheduling for the 24/25 school year. 6th grade students began the process this past week and we will continue with 5th and 7th graders early next week. Once the students select the courses that they would like to take, families will be able to view those requests and provide feedback.

A message from the PTA. Acme receipts have been extended until Feb 15. Please continue to turn in any Acme receipts to the envelope outside of homeroom doors or the PTA mailbox until this deadline. There will be another raffle so please put your child’s name on the back of the receipt. Congratulations to Clarissa in 5th grade for being the winner of the first raffle.  PTA will also be holding an honor roll breakfast for any student new to the honor roll for quarter 2. The breakfast will be held on Monday, February 5th during first period.

249 students earned honor or merit roll for quarter 2! We are so very proud of them and the hard work that they put in to be successful in the classroom. We had another 27 students who raised their GPA from quarter 1 to quarter 2. To show our appreciation for their hard work, we will be rewarding them with ice cream sundaes on Friday, February 2nd during lunch.

Our counselor, Mrs. Roberts, will be out until spring break. Please welcome Ms. Norene Stallings who will be filling Mrs. Roberts's shoes during that time. Mrs. Stallings has experience as a school counselor at different levels and we are excited for her to join our team.

Congratulations to Mrs. Heff’s class for winning the Cleveland Browns, Stay In the Game Spirit Week for their touchdown dance. Entries from all over the region and state were submitted to the Cleveland Browns and her class was the winner! They were all given Cleveland Browns hats on Friday to celebrate their win. If you haven’t already done so, please take a minute to fill out the survey to evaluate the effectiveness of the Stay in the Game campaign that focuses on attendance.

Each morning we go over our PBIS expectations with students, Be safe, Be respectful, Be responsible. The majority of our students do a wonderful job following our expectations. We have noticed a few behaviors that we have addressed but I wanted to bring them to your attention as well. We have noticed students playing inappropriately by putting their hands on others, running through the halls, and taking things that do not belong to them. We did some class meetings with 5th and 6th grade last week and they responded very well. Please talk with your children about these expectations so that we can have an effective learning environment.

Mrs. Hughes and the Band department would like to invite everyone to the Winter Band Concert on Tuesday, January 30th at 7:00 pm. The concert is free so please come support these young musicians. Student performers, please arrive by 6:30 pm. See Mrs. Hughes' email blasts and handouts for specific details. The students will also get to perform for the entire school on Wednesday, January 31st at 8:45 am.

Congratulations to the 12 students participating in the STEM EXPO this weekend at Ellet CLC. All students earned an excellent or superior rating. You all did a wonderful job!

Please check the calendar of events in the all call email for activities taking place this week. I hope you all had a great weekend and we will see you tomorrow. Have a great evening.
