Sunday Star Updates

Principal's Message for the Week of February 4th

One of the most important ways to be successful in school is to be present. Tardies and absences can accumulate over time without parents realizing how many days their student has missed or what the impact is on their child’s learning. Beginning, Feb. 12th, 2024 the following policy will be enforced. Tardy to school policy. Our goal is to be at a 93% attendance rate so we need all students to be in school each day, on time, each day that they are healthy. Please remember, that students are only permitted 10 days of absences due to illness/appointment before needing a doctor’s note to excuse the absence. Things such as transportation issues, oversleeping, and cold weather are also not excused absences.

Interim pick-up will be on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, from 3:30 - 7:00 pm. Please check your child’s home access and if you notice that they are struggling or missing assignments, I encourage you to come in and meet with their teachers. Just a reminder that if a child has an F on their interim then they will not be permitted to attend the dance on February 15.

We have been focusing on our PBIS expectations with our students daily. Our three big expectations are Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible. The majority of the students are doing a good job following our expectations. When we notice a drop in these expectations, we address the student body during morning meeting. Our goal is to always provide them with our expectations to help them be successful. Each time we have had to address something, they tend to meet the expectation. Those who do not receive an appropriate consequence. Thank you all so much for supporting us in maintaining an environment that is conducive to learning.

We have seen an increase in students bringing tablets and smart watches to school since winter break. Just a reminder that students are not permitted to have any electronic devices at school. Watches are allowed as long as they are being used to tell time. Please have your child keep any electronic devices at home. Those caught with them during the school day will have them confiscated and a parent will have to pick them up.

Students are not permitted to have medication of any kind with them throughout the school day. If your child requires taking medication during the school day, there needs to be a form filled out with the nurse, and that medication is to be housed in the clinic.

Just a reminder that drop-off in the morning occurs at doors 7 and 12. No students should be dropped off at door 1 before 8:05.

4th grade is selling warm Krispy Kreme donuts for $2 each on Monday morning before school. The proceeds will all go to 4th-grade students seeing the Broadway production “Annie” this spring. See Mrs. Walje outside the auditorium to purchase your donut!

The Miller South Dance Boosters will be sponsoring a dine-to-donate night at Chick-fil-A!
