Sunday Star Updates

Principal's Message for the Week of December 4th

Congratulations to the theater students for their showcase on Thursday night. You guys were awesome. Also, great job to our band, who performed at the Rialto Theater for the Light the Blvd event Friday evening.

This week, all students will take their winter iReady diagnostic test in reading and math. We will have an adjusted schedule for testing. We want to help our students improve their testing confidence and stamina before they take the state tests this spring so we will test in a similar environment. The more they practice, the better their results.

We are offering an incentive for students on their diagnostic tests. iReady gives each student a typical goal and a stretch goal. A typical goal means they have made one year’s growth in a year and the stretch goal means they have grown more than a year’s growth in a year. Each student who meets their typical goal will receive an ice cream float during lunch on December 8th. Any student who meets their stretch goal will receive the ice cream float and they will be given a choice board to choose three activities from beginning Monday, December 11th. Please make sure that your child has their charged Chromebook with them.

Please remember to send in your Acme receipts for the Community Cashback program. Through the end of the year, Acme receipts earn cashback for PTA and can be placed in labeled envelopes by homeroom doors. Please write your student's name on receipts for an entry into the prize drawing.

The Winter Dance Concert, "Movie Night" is Friday, December 8th @ 7:00 PM. Doors open at 6:15 PM.
Get your tickets now!! Online ticket sales: $10 per ticket (preferred), At the Door tickets: $12 CASH ONLY

Craft Show- the 8th grade Visual Art students have been making tons of items that will be sold at lunch the week before Winter Break. These items include framed art, jewelry, clothing, ornaments, and keychains and can be purchased for $1-15 with cash. There will also be a time to shop after school for any parents who would like to participate. All proceeds will go towards their trip to see the art museums in Pittsburgh this spring. Please check out the display case near door 3 if you'd like to see examples of the items for sale.

Mayor's Art Show- 4th and 5th graders who have art in the APS Mayor's Show will receive a letter in the mail with tickets to skate at Lock 3 as a recognition of their achievement. There is no in person reception or show this year, but artwork can be seen during regular City Hall business hours. A slideshow of the artwork will be shared in morning meeting soon.
