Principal's Message for the Week of December 10th

Congratulations to our dancers for a wonderful performance on Friday evening. You were all amazing.

Last week our students took their iReady diagnostic tests and we promised ice cream floats to any student who made their typical goal. I’m happy to say that 344 students made their typical goal on the reading or math test!! Many of them made it for both tests. I am so proud of the students for their efforts and even more importantly, they are proud of themselves. Those students who made their stretch goal will receive a choice board in their email Monday morning.

Next week the 6th-8th grade students will take their quarterly assessments in the math and language arts. We will again simulate the OST testing environment, as we did with iReady, to help the students build testing stamina and confidence. Please make sure that your child has a charged Chromebook for testing.

The Vocal Program's annual Winter Choral Concert is on Wednesday, December 13th beginning at 7:00pm. We will also be presenting an encore performance for the school on Friday, December 15th beginning at 1:45pm. The concert will feature a variety of songs from all of the choirs and several featured soloists. The Wednesday evening concert is open to the public, but if you are unable to attend for some reason, families are also welcome to attend the in school performance on Friday afternoon. Admission is free to both events. Attendance at both events is mandatory for all vocal students.

6th-grade health parents/guardians,
Starting Tuesday the 12th, we will be completing the Human Growth and Development Unit in class. If you wish for your students to NOT participate in this unit, please have them turn in the opt-out form Tuesday morning before class or email Ms. Montgomery. These have been emailed to your email and are posted on your student’s Google Classroom. Remember this is to NOT participate in Human Growth and Development. Contact Ms. Montgomery if you have any questions or concerns.

Please remember to send in your Acme receipts for the Community Cashback program. Through the end of the year, Acme receipts earn cashback for PTA and can be placed in labeled envelopes by homeroom doors. Please write your student's name on receipts for an entry into the prize drawing.

We have had several students bringing different perfume sprays to school and spraying them in the hallways and classrooms. We have asked that students not do this as we have several students and adults who have asthma and/or are allergic to these sprays. Please remind your child of this expectation.

Craft Show- the 8th grade Visual Art students have been making tons of items that will be sold at lunch the week before Winter Break. These items include framed art, jewelry, clothing, ornaments, and keychains and can be purchased for $1-15 with cash. There will also be a time to shop after school for any parents who would like to participate. All proceeds will go towards their trip to see the art museums in Pittsburgh this spring. Please check out the display case near door 3 if you'd like to see examples of the items for sale.

Mayor's Art Show- 4th and 5th graders who have art in the APS Mayor's Show will receive a letter in the mail with tickets to skate at Lock 3 as a recognition of their achievement. There is no in-person reception or show this year, but artwork can be seen during regular City Hall business hours. A slideshow of the artwork will be shared in morning meeting soon.
