Cuban and Caribbean Music

On December 2nd, our Steel Drum teacher, Matt Dudack, visited all of the fifth grade Language Arts classes and demonstrated and taught a very cool lesson on Cuban and Caribbean music. In Mrs. Hazlett's class, we are learning about Cuba as part of a story we are reading. He taught them to beat the clave' and the rumba. He also taught about the history of the rhythms and instruments. The rhythms are from Africa. It was really fun to beat the clave' rhythms. Mr. Dudack demonstrated some steel drum music, also. It was a welcome diversion on a cold, winter day. Thank you Mr. Dudack.
