Audition Information
Every student wishing to audition for Miller South must complete the appropriate paperwork from Open Enrollment prior to their audition. Please visit their website here.

ALL STUDENTS AUDITIONING MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING:

1) Headshot - a photo of the student that will be kept on file. Their school picture will work.

2) A copy of the student's most recent report card that will be kept on file.

3) Two (2) letters of recommendations that highlight the student's abilities and passion in the area of their audition. Their letters CANNOT be written by a family member. If they are currently studying with a private instructor or at a studio, they are encouraged to request a letter from that teacher. All letters will be kept on file.

VOCAL INTEREST AREA AUDITION SPECIFIC INFORMATION:

1) One (1) solo of the student's choice displaying good tone quality, accurate pitch, accurate rhythm, and musical expression. This can be a song learned in school, church, or home, but please avoid Rock/Pop songs. A song that they can use can be downloaded here (The Water Is Wide) if they cannot find a solo on their own. They MUST bring two (2) copies of the sheet music to the solo being performed. (Songs may be sung with a CD accompaniment [karaoke track] as long as there are not singers on the CD. A live accompanist will be provided for all auditions as long as appropriate sheet music is provided.)

2) Pitch echo exercise - the student will be asked to listen to a brief sung example and sing it back.

3) Rhythm echo exercise - the student will be asked to listen to a brief clapped rhythm and clap it back.

4) Sing the first verse of the song “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” in F Major (download sheet music). The first note of the song must be "F" in the student's appropriate octave.

5) Brief Interview

Note: Letters with audition results will be mailed as soon as possible after the audition.
